antique restoration | brass scale | marble base | beforeantique restoration | brass scale | marble base | afterHere is a before and after of an antique brass scale with a marble base.  We returned it to it’s original condition by hand cleaning the marble base and gave the brass a  polished finish.  A coating of lacquer was applied to help prevent it from tarnishing.

re-tinning copper pot | tin lining | copper pot restoration Do you have that favorite copper pot or pan than you just love but it has lost it’s luster or more important the tin lining is gone?  This hammered copper pot with brass handles was cleaned, polished and re-tin lined and is as good if not better than new.

exterior hardware plating & finishing | front door hardware restorationexterior hardware plating & finishing | front door hardware restorationWe did this project for a commercial builder in Chicago over a 3 week period.  They were restoring the exterior hardware on a building with over a dozen exterior doors. Vintage thumb levers, mail slots and cylinders were provided as well as our own wilmette hardware mortise locks.  The finish was an antique satin brass with a lacquer coating.

Walter Baron, Esquire an attorney who practiced in Chicago, Illinois provided funding for Mr. Burt Allen to start a restoration and plating company in Hubbard Woods/Winnetka, Illinois.  Al Bar was founded, and these two gentleman later merged with Wilmette Electroplaters (founded in 1937).  This blog was created to exhibit some of the present day projects we work on for both local clients and out of town customers.  We at Al Bar Wilmette look forward to work on your project to continue the history of this fine establishment.
